In between ducking your great aunt’s relationship questions and replacing the ornaments your cat swatted off the tree, let’s face it — you’re gonna need a movie break. And good thing, because there are tons to pick from. Let the games begin!
The Guilt Trip
Zero Dark Thirty
The follow-up to Kathryn Bigelow‘s 2008 The Hurt Locker has everybody buzzing over the action thriller based on the assassination of Osama Bin Laden in 2011. Prepare to see Parks and Recreation‘s Chris Pratt in a very new light (ahem six pack), and everyone’s favorite new leading lady, Jessica Chastain, doing what she does best.
This Is 40
Five years after Knocked Up, Pete and Debbie take center stage in comic genius Judd Apatow‘s latest about the lives of a couple as they turn forty. Just like all of you girls, I could gaze at my forever-crush, Paul Rudd, for hours on end, and he and Leslie Mann are hilarious as husband and wife. Plus, Apatow and Mann’s daughters, Iris and Maude, star, and well, they’re just awesome.
On the Road
Admittedly, this film about a horrifying tsunami absolutely terrifies me, but sometimes you just need a good cry.
Quentin Tarantino isn’t for everyone, but I live for his movies. The latest is a violence-filled Southern tale of a slave (Jamie Foxx) who takes over a plantation owner (Leonardo DiCaprio). And in good ol’ Tarantino fun, the soundtrack is filled with Rick Ross, John Legend and 2Pac. Nice.
West of Memphis
I love a good documentary, and this one about the West Memphis Three has me glued to my screen just with the trailer.
No holiday would be complete without a popcorn-chompin’ action flick with Tom Cruise, and this movie about a homicide investigator totally fits the bill.
So now comes the hard part…what are you going to see?
